Joseph R. Lapointe graduated from Mason City High School after just 2 years in 1971 and was a National Merit finalist. He was named one of America's 5 Most Outstanding High School Students by Who's Who in American High Schools.

 

He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts on English and History. He graduated from University of Iowa College of Law in 1978. He was awarded a Juris Doctorate with honors.

 

After graduating in 1978, Joe joined the Law Offices of Warren DeVries, working primarily in the area of insurance defense litigation. He left to start his own firm in Mason City in 1980 and still maintains his practice there.

He was named the Iowa Lawyer of the Year in 1985 in recognition of his record of providing pro bono legal services to the poor. Joe founded the North Iowa Transition Center, a halfway house for the mentally disabled in Mason City.

 

Lapointe is a former president of the Cerro Gordo County Iowa Bar Association. He is currently a member of the Iowa State Bar Association. He is also a member of the bar of the US Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit and of the US District Court for Northern Iowa.

Jenifer Lapointe

Jenifer is the firm's accountant and legal assistant. She graduated with honors from the University of South Florida with degrees in Business Administration and Accounting.

 

The majority of her experience is in accounting and business administration. She has worked for CPA firms in Minnesota and was a senior accountant for the city of Haines City in Florida.

 

She has been with the firm since 2007.

Joe founded the North Iowa Transition Center in Mason City. The organization is dedicated to assisting people with mental illness in improving their lives.
